Employee handbook

What happened?

The device list is empty

Use a USB-C cable that carries data; many only charge. Make sure you're in Chrome or Edge on a computer. A brand-new unit must be in download mode first (step ③ on the install page).

It stopped halfway

Go back to the install page and start again. A device that already runs Pocket Niuma stays as it was when an update fails, employee included.

“This code belongs to another device”

One code is one StickS3. Plug in the original device and try again; if you changed devices or it broke, contact the shop.

The screen is dark, nothing happens

It's most likely asleep: press the A button on the front. Still dark? Charge it for ten minutes and try again.

I can't install on my phone

Installing happens on a computer: phone and tablet browsers can't talk to the device over USB. Buy on your phone, install on a computer.

I want to change devices, or a refund

You can't move a code to another device yourself; contact the shop from your order on Xiaohongshu. Refunds follow Xiaohongshu's platform rules; a refunded code stops working.

How do I use the backup file?

The employee file you saved at the end is your backup. If the device is ever wiped, choose “I have a backup file” in step ① on the install page and pick it: the seal goes back on. No code and no internet needed.

The device says the contract has no seal

It hasn't been sealed yet, or the device was wiped. No need to buy again: go through the install page with your original code, or use the backup file.

Common questions

What is this, exactly?

An offline virtual pet for the M5Stack StickS3: a tiny employee who works in real time. You're buying a software license, not hardware. Made for the M5Stack StickS3 by an independent developer; not affiliated with M5Stack.

What do I need?

A StickS3; a computer (Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS) with desktop Chrome or Edge; and a USB-C cable that carries data.

How many devices does one code cover?

One. It's bound to that device when you seal; after that you can reinstall and update on the same device as often as you like.

Does a failed install waste my code?

No. The code is bound only when you press Seal in step ④. If anything fails after that, retrying uses the same license.

Will installing erase anything?

A device that already runs Pocket Niuma is only updated; your employee and progress stay. A brand-new unit's first install replaces everything on it, and the page asks you first.

Should I keep my code secret?

Until it's used, yes. Don't post the full code in notes or comments: whoever seals first gets it.

What does this site learn about me?

When you activate, the browser sends our server only the code, the device number and the firmware version. Your employee and save stay on your device. No accounts, no cookies, no third-party analytics. Once sealed, the device is fully offline.

Do I need drivers?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux support it out of the box.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds follow Xiaohongshu's platform rules and the shop's after-sales service. A refunded code stops working.

How do I contact you?

Open the shop from your order on Xiaohongshu and message customer service. Press “Copy diagnostics” below first and include it: it helps us see what happened.

Copy diagnostics

Plug the device into the computer, press the button and pick it in the list. It includes the firmware version and the device's own diagnostics, never your code.

The shop on Xiaohongshu: open it from your order and tap customer service.

Release notes

7.2.0 beta

  • 7.2.0 is the first version sold per device. Your employee won't start work until his employment contract carries the company seal: activate the device once at www.pocketniuma.com with your activation code, and the seal lands on the contract — on the device, while you watch. After that it plays offline, and reinstalling on the same device is free.
  • This version also fixes both ends of the journey. Filling the escape fund now always plays the ending — before, a chirp in the night could swallow it, or it could loop back on itself after the next hire. And the next hire really starts fresh: an empty desk, an empty savings jar, a clean record. Only the nest egg comes along.
  • Performance reviews no longer get lost while the device is plugged in, so promotions keep coming. If yours had stalled, the next review is booked a week after you first open 7.2.0.
  • Setting the time now includes the date, so the seasons, festivals and solar terms are the real ones. Changing the clock — on the device or from this page — now moves their whole life with it, instead of fast-forwarding through months or rewinding weeks.
  • Also: a press that wakes the screen no longer counts as a button press. HR erase asks twice. Games and Focus are open after work. The burnout screen says how to help. The Outbox shows dates and the boss's replies. The update screen speaks your language.
  • Coming from 6.x? Your current employee retires when you install this. They are not deleted — they move to the Hall of Former Employees, with their name, face and years of service, and a new hire starts. Your language, volume, schedule and clock are kept.
  • If the update fails partway, nothing is lost — just try again.

7.0.0

  • 7.0 rebuilds how the escape fund grows. The dream no longer creeps up while you are not looking: the day settles once, and you can see exactly what it was worth — base pay, care, performance, thrift.
  • And the room fills. Every milestone you reach buys something real, and it stays: a coin jar, a postcard, a map, a phrasebook, and eventually a suitcase. By the end the cubicle looks like somebody is leaving.
  • PLEASE READ: your current employee retires when you install this. He is not deleted — he moves to the Hall of Former Employees, with his name, his face and his years of service, and a new hire starts on Monday. The new economy could not be handed a half-finished dream without spoiling the whole point of it, so this one time everyone starts a fresh employee.
  • Your language, volume, schedule, quiet hours and clock are all kept. If the update fails partway, nothing is lost — just try again.

6.2.1

  • Two screens were quietly overlapping their own text. Settings had "Back" printed on top of the button hint, and the collection counter sat half inside the title bar.
  • Both are fixed. Nothing else changed.
  • Your employee, everything earned, every setting: untouched.

6.2.0

  • Nothing in the game changed, and nothing on screen looks different.
  • Inside, this is the same build we test with — so from now on every release is checked as the exact thing you receive, not a near-identical sibling of it.
  • Your employee, everything earned, every setting: untouched.

6.1.1

  • Updating is more reliable. If one ever fails, the device now recovers on its own instead of going quiet — and the page simply tries again.
  • A few internal fixes that only matter if something had already gone wrong.
  • Nothing in the game changed. Your employee, everything earned, every setting: exactly where you left them.

6.1.0

  • Half of your future hires are women. The old office was uniform in a way nobody had actually asked for.
  • The boot screen now shows the firmware version, so you can tell what you are running without a cable.
  • Your current employee keeps the face it has always had — the new faces start arriving with your next hire.
  • Nothing was taken: the name, everything earned, every setting, all exactly where you left them.

6.0.2

  • This update changes nothing in the game.
  • We published it so you can check that updating actually works. Clicking it is the test.
  • Your employee, its name, everything it has earned and all your settings are kept.

6.0.1 beta

  • Updates now stick. An update could finish, restart, and quietly leave the old version running.
  • The way back is honest: the recovery screen names the version it will actually give you.
  • Groundwork so that if anything does go wrong, we can tell what happened from one copied report.

6.0.0

  • The version your Pocket Niuma arrived with.
  • Every update from here on keeps your employee — its name, everything it has earned, and all your settings.
  • If an update ever goes wrong, hold both buttons while switching it on. That opens a recovery menu with a way back to the version you had.
